Easy-Brew Organic Beer Kits

If you are a beginner, or if you prefer to brew with extract, our Easy-Brew Organic Beer Kits were made with you in mind. With a small grain bag (recommended for all of our easy-brew kits), these kits can be brewed in about 2 hours. All of our Easy-Brew kits require a one hour boil to produce a flavorful beer with the highest clarity possible. Each kit contains fresh, premium organic malt extract, a small amount of organic specialty malt, fresh organic hops, organic dry malt extract (DME) or organic corn sugar for bottling, and a recipe and brewing summary. Each kit makes 5 gallons. All of the organic ingredients included in our kits are certified organic under the USDA National Organic Program by California Certified Organic Farmers.

Because we offer so many yeast choices we sell all of our kits without yeast. Each kit description includes a recommended yeast, which you may order separately. For our full yeast selection and more information about the yeast we offer, please see the yeast section.

Each kit description includes information about original gravity and IBU's (International Bittering Units), to give you more information about the strength and bitterness of the beer produced by each kit. An original gravity of 1.032 to 1.042 will produce a beer with a lower alcohol content, a range of 1.043 to 1.054 will have a moderate alcohol content, and an original gravity of 1.055 or higher will produce a strong beer. Beers with a low hop bitterness will have an IBU of 30 or less, an IBU of 30 to 40 will produce a moderate bitterness, and an IBU of over 40 will produce a strong bitterness. Because the strength of the beer and your own brewing techniques influence the percieved bitterness of the finished brew, the above values are intended as a guideline only.

Because we offer so many yeast choices we sell all of our kits without yeast. Each kit description includes a recommended yeast, which you may order separately. For our full yeast selection and more information about the yeast we offer, please see the yeast section of our catalog.

PLAIN BROWN WRAPPER OPTION

Save Resources and $1 Off Per Kit!

Our kits are packaged in a box with a full color label. You may find these items are not necessary, and if so, you may order your kit without them. Simply request the plain brown wrapper option when ordering, or order the plain brown wrapper version if ordering on-line, and we will ship your kit without the color label and booklet for $1 less.

YEAST OPTIONS: Our kits do not include yeast because we offer so many different options. Unless you plan to buy yeast locally, you must order yeast for your kit. There are 2 choices of liquid yeast for all of our kits. In addition to Wyeast, which comes in a foil self starting pouch, we now offer White Labs liquid yeast, which comes in a vial (for more details, see our yeast section). You also have the option to choose a different yeast style than the one suggested for the kit you order. If you prefer, you may also purchase dehydrated yeast for your kit instead of liquid. Dehydrated yeast is less expensive than liquid yeast, and stores longer, but usually produces beer of slightly lower quality than liquid yeast.

E.S.B. (Extra Special Bitter)

Smooth, malty, and moderately hoppy, this is a classic E.S.B. that is a true showcase of quality organic beer. The recipe is loosely based on our popular Red Honey ESB recipe that we discontinued last year because we could not source certified organic honey. This ale is light amber in color and is sure to be a crowd pleaser. Our final test batch was so good that 5 gallons ran dry in less than a week! If you want more of a dry, crisp finish we highly recommend adding 1 to 2 lbs of raw honey (not included in the kit) to the boil. For a hoppier finish, try dry hopping with organic Cascade hops (purchase separately). Contains organic malt extract, organic malted barley, organic hops, organic dry malt extract (DME) for bottling, Irish Moss, recipe, and instructions. Produces an original gravity of approximately 1.058. IBU's: 44. Recommended yeast for this kit (Not included! Order separately): Wyeast #1098 British Ale or #1968 Special London Ale, or White Labs #013 London Ale or #005 British Ale.

INDIA PALE ALE

Our IPA kit has been developed to satisfy your thirst for a strong, extra hoppy beer. Our kit features the distinct hint of blackberry flavor from the New Zealand Pacific Gem hops and a light toasted malt flavor. The NZ Hallertaur hops and Cascade hops add a rich hop aroma. Like a traditional IPA, this beer has a strong hop bitterness. Contains organic malt extract, organic specialty malts, organic hops, organic dry malt extract (DME) for bottling, Irish Moss, recipe, and instructions. Produces an original gravity of approximately 1.060. IBU's: 54. Recommended yeast for this kit (Not included! Order separately): Wyeast #1968 Special London Ale, or White Labs Burton Ale.

LEGACY DOUBLE IPA

If you really like strong beers, and if a standard IPA just doesn't have enough hop kick for you, our new organic double IPA is sure to give you the mouth puckering nose crinkling hop experience you are looking for. This is a strong, malty American style IPA bursting with strong hop bitterness, a vibrant hop aroma, and citrusy hop flavor. With 6 hop additions and over 5 ounces of organic hops (not counting the optional 2 oz. of dry hops), this IPA is a true legacy to organic hop growers. We also call it Legacy DIPA because the original recipe idea came from Co-op Member AJ, who left our staff to become the head brewer at Ukiah Brewing Company in California. For a hoppier aroma, try dry hopping with organic American Summit, New Zealand Cascade, or New Zealand Saaz hops (purchase separately).Contains organic malt extract, organic corn sugar, organic specialty malts, organic hops, organic dry malt extract (DME) for bottling, Irish Moss, recipe, and instructions. Produces an original gravity of approximately 1.075. IBU's: 80. Recommended yeast for this kit (Not included! Order separately): Wyeast #1056 American Ale, White Labs #001 California Ale or #051 California IV.

A full bodied, robust ale with a distinct chocolate taste, moderately low hop bitterness, and a full hop aroma. A satisfying brew especially welcome on a crisp autumn day, our porter is milder than a stout, but heartier than a Nut Brown Ale. Contains organic malt extract, organic specialty malts, organic hops, organic dry malt extract (DME) for bottling, Irish Moss, recipe, and instructions. Produces an original gravity of approximately 1.058. IBU's: 33. Recommended yeast for this kit (Not included! Order separately): Wyeast #1028 London Ale, or White Labs English Ale.

Richard's Farmhouse Blonde Belgian Ale

The recipe for this kit comes from our customer Richard Lawrence, the winner of the Belgian Ale category of the 2009 National Organic Brewing Challenge. Truly a beer to celebrate special occasions, this Belgian style ale is a complex, malty Golden Ale accented with a light spicy-peppery flavor. The medium gold color is crowned with a typical Belgian style lacy head which gracefully dissipates. A strong beer (over 7% ABV) that offers a warming alcohol character perfect for a relaxing evening that balances well with the lemon citrus hop flavors. This ale should be allowed to mature for at least 6 weeks in the bottle to allow the best flavors to develop. Contains organic dry malt extract, organic specialty malts, organic hops, organic bottling sugar, organic Irish Moss, recipe, and instructions. Produces an original gravity of approximately 1.066. IBU's: 28.
Recommended yeast for this kit: (Not included! Order separately): White Labs #550 Belgian Ale or #570 Belgian Golden Ale, Wyeast #1388 Belgian Strong Ale.
